Draft — pending legal review

This document is a working draft for the SIDEQUEST beta. It has not yet been reviewed by legal counsel and may change before public launch.

01Overview

In plain language

We're a free social gaming platform. We don't sell your personal data, ever.

This policy applies to the SIDEQUEST website, apps and related services (the “Services”). It describes the information we process when you play as a guest, create an account, interact with other players, or advertise with us.

We design our products to collect the minimum information required. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time in Settings.

02Information we collect

In plain language

Account details you give us, gameplay activity, and basic device information.

Depending on how you use SIDEQUEST, we may collect:

  • Account information — display name, handle, email address, password hash, profile photo and interests you choose.
  • Gameplay data — games started and completed, answers, scores, votes, challenges and achievements.
  • Social content — comments, reactions, crew membership and reports you submit.
  • Device and usage data — device class, browser, language, approximate region from IP address, and diagnostic logs.
  • Guest sessions — a temporary identifier so your score can be saved if you later create an account.

03How we use information

In plain language

To run the games, keep comparisons fair, keep people safe, and improve the product.

We use information to provide and personalize the Services, compute scores and leaderboards, deliver challenges and notifications you've enabled, detect cheating, fraud and abuse, enforce our community guidelines, and understand which features work.

Analytics are aggregated and de-duplicated. Internal and test activity is excluded from reports.

04Sharing and visibility

In plain language

Other players see what you choose to make visible. Service providers process data only on our instructions.

Your display name, avatar and public stats are visible according to your visibility settings. Challenge links share only the information needed for a fair comparison — never your private profile or history.

We share information with service providers (hosting, email delivery, security scanning) under contracts that limit use to providing services to us, and with authorities only where required by law or to protect someone's safety.

05Advertising

In plain language

Ads are matched to the topic you're browsing, not to your private profile. You can hide any ad.

Sponsored and boosted cards are matched to coarse context such as the category of the page you're viewing. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or share your identity with them.

Advertisers receive aggregate reports only (for example, viewable impressions and valid clicks). Hiding an ad or advertiser is remembered across your signed-in sessions.

06Your choices and rights

In plain language

See, download, correct or delete your data — all from Settings.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access and download a copy of your data.
  • Correct inaccurate information.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent for optional cookies and notifications.

07Data retention

In plain language

We keep data only as long as we need it, then delete or anonymize it.

Guest sessions expire after 30 days of inactivity. Account data is kept while your account is active and deleted within 30 days after you close it, except where we must keep limited records for legal, safety or financial reasons (for example, enforcement and advertising ledger records).

08Children

In plain language

Accounts are for people aged 13 and over, or older where local law requires.

We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will remove it.

09Security

In plain language

Encryption, access controls and audit logs protect your information.

We use encryption in transit, hashed passwords, least-privilege staff access and immutable audit logs for sensitive actions. No system is perfectly secure, so we also offer session management and sign-in alerts in Settings.

10Cookies and similar technologies

In plain language

Essential cookies keep you signed in. Optional analytics cookies are off until you allow them.

We use a small number of cookies and local storage entries. You can change your choices at any time from Cookie settings in the footer.

  • Essential — sign-in, security, language preference and saving guest progress.
  • Preferences — remembering settings like reduced motion or hidden ads.
  • Analytics (optional) — aggregated, de-duplicated usage measurement.
  • We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
